  • The Group operates a “good quality” Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Plant.
  • In 2007/08 the CHP Plant consumed 7.5 million therms of natural gas in order to generate steam and electricity.
  • In 2007 the Group emitted 41,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
  • From January 2008 the Group has complied with the EUETS.
  • The Group’s EUETS allocation is 41,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per annum.
  • A waste heat recovery unit commissioned in 2006/07 has reduced gas consumption by 6% per annum.
  • A Biomass feasibility study indicates that a biomass boiler could reduce gas consumption by 20%.
  • A Biomass boiler would generate steam from waste that is largely regarded to be carbon neutral.
  • The Group has now exceeded all 3 of its its Climate Change Agreement (CCA) Milestones for specific energy use per tonne of saleable product.
