- The Group operates a “good quality” Combined
Heat and Power (CHP) Plant.
- In 2007/08 the CHP Plant consumed 7.5 million therms of natural
gas in order to generate steam and electricity.
- In 2007 the Group emitted 41,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
- From January 2008 the Group has complied with the EUETS.
- The Group’s EUETS allocation
is 41,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per annum.
- A waste heat recovery unit commissioned in 2006/07 has reduced
gas consumption by 6% per annum.
- A Biomass feasibility study indicates that a biomass boiler could
reduce gas consumption by 20%.
- A Biomass boiler would generate steam from waste that is largely
regarded to be carbon neutral.
- The Group has now exceeded all 3 of its its Climate Change Agreement
(CCA) Milestones for specific energy use per tonne of saleable
product.
